Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 4 slices Swiss or American cheese
- 4 slices rye bread
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for grilling)
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix ketchup, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp of butter. Add chopped onions and sauté for about 8-10 minutes until caramelized.
- Shape ground beef into four patties slightly larger than the bread slices. Season with salt and pepper. Cook in another skillet for about 3-4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
- Layer each patty with sautéed onions and a slice of cheese while still in the skillet to allow melting.
- Butter one side of each slice of rye bread and place butter-side down in a skillet. Stack each patty melt between two slices of bread and grill until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side.
- Cut in half to reveal the melty goodness inside and serve hot with fries or salad.
